"Indeed, we've come a long way in building an improved relationship between the City, Fairplex and NHRA, thanks to efforts from all three organizations and from our joint Fairplex Citizen Liaison Committee," said mayor Don Kendrick. "This NHRA Fanfest will provide a way for Old Town La Verne to benefit from NHRA and vice versa.

"Any way that we can continue to build on our positive relationship with NHRA and Fairplex is a positive for La Verne."

To help promote the Nov.10-13 Auto Club Finals, community leaders created the fanfest, an idea that has resonated throughout the Southeast in NASCAR. The highlights of the five-hour event that begins at 10 a.m. in the Old Town section are the personal hour-long appearances of Funny Car drivers Jack Beckman and John Force. Beckman is scheduled at noon and Force, along with daughters Brittany and Courtney, is set for 1 p.m.

"We are right in the thick of the Funny Car championship fight, but I want to spend some time with the fans to get them as pumped up," Force said. "It is the 60 th year of the NHRA and we have been celebrating all season, so this is one of the last big parties and I want everyone to come out to La Verne and celebrate the NHRA with me.
