I continue to hear of seniors waiting months for the department to do a simple assessment for health care services.</p><p>Many seniors have been forced into nursing homes at a much higher cost to taxpayers. It has been weeks since I raised this issue, and the department and the Nixon administration obstinately refuse to change their assessment process. Instead, the department&#x92;s only response has been a statement that it is processing assessments &#x93;with faster services and shorter wait times than under the former private contractor.&#x94; But that performance was so poor public outrage and legislative pressure forced an end to that contract. </p><p>The standard should be the Missouri statute, which requires assessments within 15 days. Further, the department&#x92;s statement on its performance is refuted by providers, who rated the department poorly. </p><p>It&#x92;s time for the Nixon administration to work with providers and lawmakers to ensure Missouri&#x92;s most vulnerable citizens get the care they need. </p><p> <span class="bold">Lt.
