Kristen Ross, founder of PregoFIT, was awarded the $30,000 grand prize from SpiritBank. PregoFIT offers a DVD and online video series of customized total-body workouts designed for each month of pregnancy.

"I'm humbled and honored. It's been an exciting experience; quite an adventure. We learned so much," Ross said.

Part of her adventure was being pregnant during the contest. Ross is due to give birth in a few weeks.

She said it was encouraging that the judges believed in her business enough to make it the winner.

"It begins to open the doors for opportunities and possibilities," Ross said.

Ross and the six other finalists gathered for the Tuesday evening event along with family, friends, and several other local entrepreneurs, community and business leaders at the Tulsa Community College Center for Creativity to learn this year's winners.

The awards ceremony, complete with a video featuring the finalists, capped a competition that began in April when more than 100 entrepreneurs submitted entries.

Over the past several months, the competitors were narrowed to 25, then 12 semifinalists and finally the seven finalists, who gave their last pitches to judges earlier this month.

Throughout the competition, the top seven contestants received coaching from area business leaders to refine their presentations and update their business plans. Judges looked for contestants who were able to take what they learned from coaching and improve throughout the process and advance their business model.

Dr. Thomas McKeon, president of Tulsa Community College, lauded the dreams, passion and hard work of each of the finalists.

Regardless of what happens in the competition, he said, each of the finalists "has what takes to be an entrepreneur."

The winning entrepreneurial business model, PregoFIT, has expanded its website to offer online fitness coaching and products for pregnant and postpartum women.
